College Preparatory School for Girls Grades 3-12

Students in grades 5 through 12 participate in a one-to-one device program. The program was established in 2000 and continues to expand. For the 2014-2015 school year students in grades 5 through 8 will use iPad 3s and students in grades 9 through 12 will use tablet laptops. Students in grades 3 and 4 have access to netbooks and iPad carts for in-school projects.

Campus-wide Holton’s equipment and infrastructure is state of the art. The Lower School Library, the Alice S. Marriott Library (serving Middle and Upper School), and classrooms have access to:

Digital Citizenship

The School treats online safety seriously. After appropriate instruction, parental consent, and signed acceptable use agreements, students in may be granted unsupervised (but content filtered) access to the internet through the School’s network.

Students discuss online safety and how to create and maintain a positive digital footprint.

The Holton-Arms School policies, Honor Code, and major rules encourage students, faculty, and administrative personnel to exhibit personal integrity, responsibility to themselves and others, and respect for cultural and individual differences. These same principles of behavior are the basis of the appropriate and ethical use of the School’s computer technology.

1:1 Laptop and iPad Initiative

Our mission is to prepare our students for the highest level of academic and intellectual development. With this in mind, we have developed a one-to-one laptop and iPad initiative that will introduce students to technology in the Lower School and allow them to transition seamlessly into the Middle and Upper School with a firm understanding of the technology at their disposal.

Lower School iPad Program
In the Lower School the one-to-one iPad program begins in grade 5 and continues into grade 6. Each iPad is owned by the School and provided to the student after their technology orientation in the fall. Grades 3 and 4 have access to iPad and netbook carts.

Middle School Program

Middle School students participate in a one-to-one iPad program. Students purchase iPads directly from Apple. Holton provides a list of educational apps to be purchased and downloaded prior to orientation in the fall.

Upper School Laptop Initiative
All students in grades 9-12 are required to purchase a Lenovo laptop, Lenovo tablet, or Apple MacBook Air. By requiring each student to bring a tablet to school for daily use, we are able to increase equitable access to digital resources. Additionally, it is important that students be able to move seamlessly between school and home, using a device that they know and for which they are responsible. This practice will further their learning both in and out of the classroom.

Professional Development

Professional Development is integral to the technology program at Holton, as it allows our faculty to explore and master new tools and approaches to learning. Our faculty professional development program includes: Regular technology training sessions. A dedicated tablet computer and iPad for each teacher. Wireless ceiling-mounted projectors and/or Apple TVs in all classrooms. Access to an ever-growing multimedia resource library.
