Grade 7 Overnight Retreat: Outdoor Education

Dear Rising Seventh-Grade Parents,

I want to share with you some important information about the Grade 7 Orientation & Retreat is slated for Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30.

Seventh-grade girls will experience a two-day program on Holton-Arms’ campus.  This program is designed to bolster self-confidence; to teach the value of teamwork, compromise, and cooperation; and to encourage community building amongst class members. The program is scheduled for the beginning of the year because the overnight experience can help to integrate the new Holton students into their class, as well as play a critical role in fostering class unity and in setting a positive tone for the entire year.

Students should arrive on campus for Orientation at 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, the retreat will begin immediately following. Students should be picked up on Friday, August 30 at 12 p.m.  Please complete the Holton permission form (online) and the InnerQuest waiver (print out and turn in to Ms. McMillen in the Middle School office).  Both forms are due to the MS Office by Friday, August 16.  In addition, please follow the packing list as you help your daughter prepare for this experience.

Because class unity is one of our primary goals, we expect every member of the class to participate. We understand that spending the night away from home can sometimes make students (and parents?) a bit nervous. Therefore, if you have any questions regarding this trip, or if your daughter has special needs that we should know about, please contact Health and Physical Education Teacher, Carrie Braun or call the Middle School office at 301.365.6018.

We are excited about the trip, and we hope the girls are excited as well.  We appreciate your support of outdoor education and look forward to a successful trip.

Sincerely,

Nichole Foster-Hinds
Director of Middle School
