Lower School Chromebook Gr. 6

School-owned and School-managed Program

For 9 years, our Lower School 1:1 program in grades 5 and 6 have leveraged the use of the Apple iPad as a powerful tool for learning. Three years ago, we established a 1:1 Chromebook program for grades 3 and 4. We have since learned that the Chromebooks are an incredible tool for learning and offer features that will better serve the needs of all of our Lower School students. Through teacher, student, and parent feedback, we’ve decided to expand the use of the Chromebooks to grades 5 and 6.

For the 2021-2022 academic year, Holton is requiring that all grade 3, 4, 5, and 6 families use a new Lenovo Chromebook as their 1:1 Device. As we recognize that our rising sixth-graders purchased an iPad at the beginning of fifth grade, all sixth-grade students will be issued a school-provided Lenovo 300e Chromebook for the 2021-2022 school year.

To strengthen our partnership to help maintain safe and acceptable use, please access your grade level policy and go through it together with your student.

Grade 6

Caring for a School-owned Device:

Devices are provided for the sole use of the Student to which is was given. All devices must be operated in a careful and proper manner, in accordance with the School’s policies and any and all laws, ordinances, and regulations relating to the possession, use, or maintenance of such equipment. Parents/Guardians agree not to install or allow to be installed any software or apps other than those explicitly authorized by the Holton-Arms School Technology Department. The Parents/Guardians shall be responsible for, and agree to fully indemnify the School for, any violation of all applicable software licenses; any and all applicable school policies; and local laws, ordinances, and regulations. The Student is responsible for returning all borrowed equipment in good working order by the end of each school year, when the Student no longer requires the device, or within one business day of the Technology Department’s request to return the equipment, whichever comes first. The Parents/Guardians and Student are required to maintain the device in good repair and operating condition, allowing for reasonable wear and tear. Negligence or improper use may result in the loss of use of school-owned equipment and Parents/Guardians will be charged for damage not covered under the warranty or accidental damage insurance policy on the device.
