College Preparatory School for Girls Grades 3-12

Drawing of a girl reading

Dear Lower School students and families,

Summer offers us opportunities to spend extra time with our family and friends, try new activities, and relax. But, whether I am at the pool, the beach, or curled up on my couch during a thunderstorm, my favorite part of summer is the opportunity to read, read, read! To help you find the perfect books, Ms. Schwartz has compiled a list of summer reading suggestions for you (below).

The Lower School "Group Read" for summer 2021 is Twins, by Varian Johnson and Shannon Wright.

Please know that these are simply suggestions, as we encourage you to read whatever interests you. This year, we are also excited for you to play Book Bingo! Please follow the directions on the sheet and remember to include a journal entry for each Book Bingo book you read! When you return in the fall, we will be eager to hear about your reading adventures and book recommendations!  Additionally, if you would like to work on some specific summer skills, please consider ordering The Summer Skills Language Arts Workbook.  Please order the grade your student just completed. The workbook is meant to be used 3 times per week for 10 weeks to reinforce concepts from the beginning of the summer to the end. Because most lessons take only about 30 minutes, students can easily fit them into their busy summer schedules! The workbook also includes an answer key to ensure the materials are completed correctly. We recommend an adult check over the work each day it is completed.

I hope your summer reading allows you to meet new characters with unique perspectives and whisks you off on unexpected adventures!  Summer reading, to me, is like having unlimited desserts. Enjoy!
