Holton's academic schedule is divided into trimesters. The daily schedule for 2020-2021 will follow a weekly alternating Blue/White Monday-Friday program.
Our goal is to provide students with meaningful and engaging learning experiences through a combination of on-campus and online instruction. To best facilitate and foster the relationships so central to School life and to provide the necessary structure to the school day, hybrid-learning will function synchronously whether students are on-campus or participating in distance learning.
On school days campus will open no earlier than 30 minutes prior to start time - no earlier than 7:45 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and no earlier than 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Due to the need to avoid mixing the homerooms and cohorts, there will be no before-school care or breakfast service during the 2020-2021 school year. Students will go directly to their first class upon entering the building.
LATE STARTS ON WEDNESDAY MORNINGS
We know anecdotally from schools across the country and from neuroscience research on adolescent sleep patterns that a later start on a consistent basis can help reduce student stress and improve health, academic performance, and general wellness. Responding to this research, the Holton schedule includes a 9:15 a.m. start every Wednesday. This change has the advantage of creating consistency around our late starts. The faculty and staff use the time for professional work.
