It’s not every day that a rocket scientist comes to class—although several groups of Holton students have had the unique and very exciting privilege this school year, thanks to Lindsey McKan ’05 returning to campus to assist with various Lower and Middle School classes.
McKan studied mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and after graduating, worked as a helicopter engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft for almost a decade. More recently, she has shifted into the field of STEM education and completed her master’s in the field in 2019.
Last Thursday, coincidentally International Day of Women and Girls in Science, third-grade teacher Eileen Shelton invited McKan to speak to her class about her career experiences and lead an engaging, hands-on lesson about helicopters.
In the above video, we share a glimpse into her talk that day—and a powerful reminder of the ways that Holton women “find a way or make one,” charting their own paths that merge often wide-ranging passions and that create positive change in the world.
