LS teacher and Academic Technology Coordinator Lucia Hassell created the above musical slideshow commemorating the Class of 2027.
On their last day as Lower Schoolers, the Class of 2027 assembled as a full grade one final time for the Sixth Grade Celebration. The special ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 8, honored students’ Lower School journey and officially marked their graduation to the Middle School.
In her opening remarks, Lower School Director Christy Diefenderfer noted how impressed she has been by the sixth graders’ resilience and grace over the challenging past year. “You took lemons and made them lemonade.”
When students weren’t able to interact across homerooms, she said, they found ways to engage everyone from their homeroom in play. “I hope you always remember to take time to get to know everyone in your class, just as you have this year… I hope you continue to come together as a class to encourage each other, support each other, and be kind to each other.”
Following a series of pre-recorded musical tributes from fellow Lower School classes, the sixth graders took the stage by homeroom so that each student could share a favorite Lower School memory with the audience of teachers, staff, and family members. These highlights ranged from English assignments to the Lower School ski trip, from making go karts in Design Tech to being silly together in homeroom, from the Baltimore Aquarium visit to the Newly Accepted Students Parade launched this year.
Finally, the sixth graders presented a pre-recorded song of their own, India.Arie’s “A Beautiful Day,” then enjoyed an incredible, 20-minute musical slideshow documenting their Lower School experiences and adventures. The slideshow also honored the life of longtime Lower School Assistant Helen Poon, who so sadly passed away this week and is so fondly remembered.
Poised and prepared, the Class of 2027 looked totally ready for a new set of experiences and adventures in the Middle School.
All of us in the Holton family wish them the very best and send our most heartfelt congratulations!
