Holton performers and their dedicated faculty leaders have been finding a way or making one, staging an array of innovative performances and concerts reimagined for the virtual format. We are pleased to present several of these culminating “shows” here!
HEAR OUR VOICE: VIRTUAL WINTER CHORAL CONCERT
The Women In Blue Upper School Chorus, Chamber Singers, Swing Choir, and Middle School Chorus have worked hard this fall to learn pieces and make individual recordings that through the wonder of technology have been edited to create ensemble performances. Songs were selected by our students and share a bright message of hope, solidarity, strength, perseverance, community, and connection. You can find the performance, as well as a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how it came together, on our Holton/Landon Performing Arts YouTube Channel.
MIDDLE & UPPER SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL ASSEMBLY
Instrumentalists from US Jazz Ensemble, US Wind Ensemble, MS and US String Orchestras, and US Chamber Orchestra put together an array of group and solo performances, practices, and projects in lieu of a live performance this year. Enjoy clicking through these samples on our website!
MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAY: "Do You Read Me?"
Written especially for actors to perform on Zoom, “Do You Read Me?” is a space comedy about community. In Kathryn Funkhauser’s ingenious play, NASA Scientists work to support a crew of civilian colonists on Mars. Their mission? To grow the first eggplant. As the scientists take reports from the self-appointed experts, disappointed sci-fi fans, and customer service nightmares that inhabit the colony under the leadership of the arrogant Commander, the mission starts to seem impossible. But could there be more to the story than they're letting on?
UPPER SCHOOL HOLTON-LANDON FALL PLAY: "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
Students from Holton and Landon proudly present William Shakespeare’s beloved “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in a unique format. Rehearsed and recorded entirely over Zoom, this filmed version of one of Shakespeare’s best loved plays is sure to delight audiences with its courtly lovers, rude mechanicals and mischievous fairies. Lovestruck Athenians take to the forest where they meet up with the feuding Queen and King of the fairy kingdom. Meanwhile, a group of wanna-be actors have also made their way into the woods to secretly rehearse a play. After a night of misadventures, love spells, and magic the mortals emerge from the woods unscathed but forever transformed.
Both plays are available for viewing on our Holton/Landon Performing Arts YouTube Channel!
