Two Students Place in 2022 Congressional Art Competition

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) announced the winners of the Eighth District Congressional Art Competition on Tuesday, May 16. Katherine Yoon ’23 and Elsa Bell ’24 both earned second place honors: Katherine for her acrylic painting entitled “Grandpa and His Daily Task,” and Elsa for her oil painting “Tying Flies.”

Over 130 students from 29 high schools participated in this year's 8th District Competition. Twenty-five students were recognized as second-place honorees. Their artwork will be displayed in Raskin's Capitol Hill and Rockville District offices.

"I salute the 25 second-place honorees for their dazzling contributions and thank all the student participants for sharing their tremendous artistic vision with our community," Raskin said.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Now in its 41st year, more than 650,000 high school students have participated since the competition’s inception in 1982.
