Distinguished Alumna Award - Courteney Freedman Monroe ’86

Courteney Monroe is president of National Geographic, overseeing the brand's print and digital offerings, its vast social media footprint, National Geographic Documentary Films, as well as all Nat Geo content produced for National Geographic television networks and direct-to-consumer platforms Disney+ and Hulu.

Monroe has led a significant transformation of the more than 138-year-old global brand, modernizing it for the digital age and turning it into a destination for creatively ambitious storytelling that inspires a deeper connection to our world. With her at the helm, National Geographic continues to be one of the most-followed brands on social media with over 800 million followers across all its social media channels. She's also transformed the brand into a port of call for A-list creative talent, including Darren Aronofsky, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, David Blaine, James Cameron, Jimmy Chin, Ryan Coogler, Jon Favreau, Brian Grazer, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Ron Howard, Natalie Portman, Will Smith, Stanley Tucci, Mariana van Zeller and E. In 2024, the Society of Publication Designers named National Geographic its Brand of the Year, one of the most prestigious awards in the publishing industry. Additionally, the brand was recognized with eight Webby Awards and seven People's Voice Awards.

Monroe is widely recognized as a trusted, collaborative leader who builds winning team cultures and delivers strong results. She first joined National Geographic Channels U.S. in 2012 as chief marketing officer, managing the brand and all aspects of promotion, as well as consumer and trade communications. From there, she was elevated to CEO of National Geographic Channels U.S. and then CEO of National Geographic Global Television Networks before taking on her current role. Prior to National Geographic, she was executive vice president of Consumer Marketing and Digital Platforms for HBO, where she was responsible for marketing the HBO and Cinemax brands and their programming across all platforms.

Rosie Award

Created by the Board of Directors of the Alumnae Association on September 17, 1990, The Rosemary Wire Anderson ("The Rosie") Award recognizes an alumna's extraordinary service to Holton-Arms. It was presented for the first time at Reunion Weekend in 1991 to Rosemary Wire Anderson '58. The award recognizes extraordinary service to Holton. The "Rosie" Award is a surprise to the recipient. Join us for the Alumnae Association Cocktail Party during Reunion Weekend on Friday, April 17, to see the winner presented with the award!

There are several hotels within a 15-minute drive of Holton. Holton has reserved a block of rooms at the Marriott Headquarters in Downtown Bethesda for alumnae attending Holton-Arms Reunion Weekend. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
BWI is approximately 40 miles from Holton-Arms. Trains are available from BWI to Union Station

Union Station
Amtrak trains terminating at Union Station are Metro accessible.

Metro

Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare options are readily available to and from campus.
Barwood Taxi provides service in Maryland and provides scheduled airport pickups.

Arrival
Our campus is located at 7303 River Road, Bethesda, MD 20817, and is easily accessible from the Beltway and Downtown DC.
Visitor parking is available in the first bank of parking places on the left as you enter the parking lot. Please walk through the Second Century Garden in the Front Circle to the reception area.
