Alumnae Awards

Honoring Excellence, Leadership, and Lifelong Impact

Each year during Reunion Weekend, the Holton-Arms Alumnae Association proudly celebrates recipients of the Distinguished Alumna Award and "The Rosie" Award, two honors that recognize the extraordinary contributions and enduring spirit of Holton women.

These awards shine a light on alumnae who exemplify Holton's core values through their professional achievements, personal integrity, community service, and commitment to empowering others. Whether breaking barriers in their fields, uplifting their communities, or inspiring future generations, our awardees represent the best of what it means to carry the Holton legacy forward.

Nominations for the 2027 Alumnae Awards are due November 2, 2026.

The Distinguished Alumna Award

The Distinguished Alumna Award was established by the Board of Directors of the Alumnae Association in 1973 to recognize the career, professional, or volunteer service accomplishments of an outstanding alumna of the Holton-Arms School.

2026 - Courteney Freedman Monroe ’86

Courteney Freedman Monroe ’86 is President of National Geographic, where she oversees the brand’s print, digital, social, and television platforms, as well as content for Disney+ and Hulu. She has led a major transformation of the 138-year old brand, modernizing it for the digital age, and cementing it as a destination for ambitious storytelling. Additionally, she works closely with the National Geographic Society to amplify the groundbreaking work of its explorers, scientists, and storytellers, ensuring their discoveries reach and inspire global audiences.

The "Rosie" Award

The "Rosie" Award, established in honor of Rosemary Wire Anderson ’58, former Director of Alumnae at Holton-Arms, recognizes "...an alumna who has given extraordinary service to her School community."

2026 - Cathy Johnson Butz ’87

Cathy Johnson Butz is a "paragon of all that is finest in a Holton-Arms alumna," bringing intellect, character, and purpose to every role she has held, from President of the Parents Association to two terms as Chairman of the Board. A natural leader with impeccable judgement and strong problem-solving skills, she has guided the School through both challenges and triumphs, including co-chairing the Head of School Search Committee and serving on the Buildings and Grounds and Advancement committees. Her dedication is further evidenced by her role as a "quiet guiding hand" and "unofficial mentor" to new trustees, always available as a sounding board to help others. Through her "tireless work ethic" and "uncanny ability" to bring people together, Cathy has helped our community accomplish great things.
