The Art of Expression: Holton Artists Earn National Honors at Scholastic Awards

"The Lilacs that Link Us" by Sophia G. ’27 - Silver Key

Holton-Arms student artists have once again earned national recognition from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation’s most prestigious program for creative teens. Their work—spanning painting and drawing, ceramics, photography, and mixed media—reflects the curiosity, discipline, and creative courage at the heart of a Holton education.

This year, students received 14 Gold Medals, 16 Silver Medals, and 32 Honorable Mentions at the national level. Notably, this year’s regional competition expanded from a Maryland-based pool to a much larger East Coast region, making these honors even more competitive and significant. Among the highest honors, Vivienne C. ’27 received a National Silver Medal for her photograph of her classmate, Avalon G. ’28, and Oma N. ’26 earned a Gold Medal for her art portfolio —distinctions that place Holton artists among the top young creatives in the country.

Upper School art teacher Monica Campbell reflected on this year’s accomplishments: “What stands out about this group of artists is their willingness to stay with an idea—to revise, experiment, and push beyond their first instinct. The recognition is a reflection of the time, thought, and care they invest in their work every day.”
At Holton, art is both practice and perspective—a way for students to explore ideas, challenge assumptions, and share their voices with clarity and purpose. This year’s Scholastic Awards celebrate not only achievement, but the vibrant community and creative spirit behind the work.
