Third Graders Captivated by Author and Illustrator Kevin McCloskey's Drawings

Third Graders Captivated by Author and Illustrator Kevin McCloskey's Drawings

Kevin McCloskey is an award-winning artist who creates wonderfully educational comics for children. Many young readers love his books, We Dig Worms! The Real Poop on Pigeons!Something’s Fishy, and Snails Are Just My Speed! His drawings have appeared in many newspapers including The Village Voice and The New York Times.

Using his books on worms, ants, and pigeons as examples, Mr. McCloskey shared those aha moments that inspired him, many attempts at drawing because children have sharp eyes, and back-and-forth discussions with his publisher when working on his drafts. This visit aligns perfectly with the third-grade non-fiction research unit. Students marveled at his ways of getting familiar with little creatures and ended their day excitedly with a worm race.
