Maddie Mitchell '24 Named to All-American Lacrosse Team and Honored with the Jackie Pitts Award
Holton-Arms attack player Maddie Mitchell '24 clinched two prestigious honors in lacrosse. She was named a USA Lacrosse All-American and received the Jackie Pitts Award for her exceptional performance and community contributions.

Known for her stellar skills on the field and her impactful presence off it, Mitchell's achievements highlight her as a standout athlete and role model in the Holton-Arms community.

Maddie began playing lacrosse in the first grade and immediately fell in love with the sport. “My family is very competitive and with a lot of my relatives playing lacrosse, I was really encouraged to get into it,” she said.

Mitchell's achievements extend beyond the lacrosse field; she has maintained a strong academic record while actively participating in community service initiatives throughout her high school years. Her ability to balance academics with athletics has underscored her determination and organizational skills.

The Jackie Pitts Award, an honor bestowed upon outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship, leadership, and community service in lacrosse, recognizes Mitchell's contributions to both her team and the wider Holton community.

"Being named an All-American means that all my hard work has paid off and my dreams of playing lacrosse in college are coming true," Maddie said. "The Jackie Pitts Award is especially meaningful because it recognizes not just my performance on the field but also my contributions to my team and community."

"Maddie has always represented our community in a way that I would hope all can learn from," Graham Westerberg, Athletic Director said. "Her work ethic, determination, ability to relate to others, her drive for excellence, and her unselfish play are some of the many qualities I see in Maddie."

Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach, Janet McCormick added, “Maddie is an incredible leader. She earns the respect of her teammates, not just through her talent, but through her choices, her work ethic, and the standards she sets for herself and her teammates. When she is on the field she makes those around her better.”

Mitchell's achievements have not only elevated her as a standout athlete but also as a respected member of the Holton community, inspiring peers and underclassmen alike with her dedication and achievements both on and off the field. “I have learned more about myself through lacrosse than anything else in my life. I have become more confident in myself on and off the field and have learned how to balance hard work with much-needed rest. Through my many coaches and teammates, I have learned how to push myself and others while also having fun,” she said.

"Receiving the All-American title is an incredible honor. Earning the Pitts Award is even greater. Maddie is a true ambassador of Holton," said Mr. Westerberg.

This fall, Maddie will continue her lacrosse career at Princeton University.
