Holton Memorializes Wiener Sisters Through Community Engagement Program

Holton-Arms celebrated the power of service and community engagement while honoring the lasting legacy of alumnae Jillian Wiener ’19 and Lindsay Wiener ’21, who tragically passed away in 2022, during a special Upper School assembly focused on civic responsibility and social impact.

Kimberly Stevenson Parks, Holton’s Director of Development, opened the program by recognizing the community effort that made the initiative possible. “This program is the direct result of the Holton community coming together to establish an endowed fund in memory of alumnae Jillian and Lindsay Wiener,” Parks said. “The girls were true philanthropists who gave their time to make our world a better place. The fund provides monies annually so that we will always shine their light on this important work at Holton.”

With Jillian and Lindsay’s mother, Alisa Wiener, in attendance, Parks also announced that Holton’s Community Engagement Award will officially be renamed the Jillian and Lindsay Wiener Community Engagement Award, ensuring their legacy remains closely tied to service and leadership at the school.

Established in 2023, the Jillian and Lindsay Wiener Community Engagement Learning Opportunity reflects Holton’s mission to educate the mind, soul, and spirit while preparing students to become thoughtful changemakers. Through partnerships with organizations including Martha’s Table, Only Make Believe, Potomac Conservancy, and Community Reach of Montgomery County, this year’s program gave Upper School students the opportunity to explore pressing social issues through hands-on service opportunities. Guided by Holton’s FARE model—Familiarize, Act, Reflect, Extend—students were encouraged to examine injustice, engage with empathy, and build meaningful community partnerships.

Jillian and Lindsay exemplified those values throughout their time at Holton. Both served as presidents of the Community Service Club during their senior years, and Lindsay also led the Jewish Culture Club. Jillian helped organize “Fall Day in the Country” at Landon for children in the Montgomery County Housing Partnership program and coordinated volunteers for Rise Against Hunger. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lindsay led initiatives including a food drive benefiting Manna Food Center and a letter-writing campaign for local healthcare workers.

Known for their kindness, inclusivity, and commitment to social justice, the sisters continue to inspire Holton students to lead with empathy and purpose.
