Liz Dover Appointed Head of Lower School
Liz Dover

Holton-Arms School is thrilled to announce that Liz Dover has been appointed Head of Lower School, effective immediately. Since joining as Interim Head in July 2024, Liz has brought inspirational leadership, commitment to excellence, and enthusiastic engagement to the people of Holton to ensure successful mission delivery.

Liz emerged as the ideal choice from a competitive pool of more than 30 highly qualified candidates. Her experience, dedication, and servant-leadership style uniquely position her to advance the Lower School’s programs and nurture the minds, souls, and spirits of Holton-Arm's youngest Panthers.

As Interim Head this Fall, Liz prioritized relationship-building with students, families, faculty, and staff. Her background in curriculum design, STEM education, and program assessment -- along with her collaborative spirit and deep commitment to student advocacy -- has already strengthened the community. She has fostered a culture of curiosity and growth in the Lower School, embodies Holton’s mission, and enriches the school's educational offerings.

Liz's commitment to the advancement of education is evident. She brings a wealth of experience, including 10 years as Head of School at The GreenMount School in Baltimore, Maryland, and currently serves as Chair of the Commission on Accreditation for the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS). Her academic background includes a M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy along with a certificate in Educational Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University. She holds a B.A. from the University of Delaware and is an alumna of Roland Park Country School, where she developed a lasting passion for girls’ schools.

Already a valued leader on campus, Liz is delighted to be entrusted with leadership of the Lower School. "I am thrilled to accept the Head of Lower School position at Holton-Arms," she said. "Having served as the Interim Head, I have had the privilege of experiencing the exceptional community and vibrant learning environment that Holton-Arms cultivates. I am honored to support Holton's mission and collaborate with the inspiring faculty, staff, and broader Holton community in nurturing the joy and curiosity that form the foundation for the growth and confidence of Holton girls. I am thrilled to grow our partnership and am deeply grateful for this opportunity!"

Community feedback and broad support were critical in this process. Praise for Liz Dover’s leadership skills, visibility, commitment to girls’ education, and ability to communicate effectively with all members of the community rang loud and clear. As one parent shared, “Liz is the ideal fit for the next Head of Lower School at Holton-Arms.” A faculty member echoed this sentiment, noting that Liz would make a remarkable Head of Lower School: "she is thoughtful, experienced, and has already been a champion for the Lower School students and our program.”

Penny Evins, Head of School, invites the community to celebrate the official appointment of Liz Dover as Head of Lower School. In her announcement, Evins expressed deep gratitude for the community’s devotion to Holton and the gift of your children. “Together, we cultivate the unique potential of young women through an education not only of the mind but of the soul and spirit,” she stated, reflecting on the privilege of guiding this mission.
