First Middle School ISMAW Math Meet of the 2024/2025 SY
- Lower School
- Middle School
The first of three ISMAW (Independent School Math Association of Washington) Math Meets took place at Washington Episcopal School, with 20 talented Holton-Arms students from grades 5 through 8. Competing against 13 other schools, the Holton team displayed impressive problem-solving skills, securing a tie for second place. The students faced a variety of challenging math problems, testing their abilities and teamwork under time constraints.
Ms. Coste, Co-Chair of the Mathematics Department and Lower School Mathematics Coordinator, remarked, "Watching our students tackle complex problems with creativity and skill truly highlights the rewards of their hard work. These meets not only offer students a fantastic way to apply their problem-solving skills to new challenges, but they also provide a unique opportunity to connect with other young math enthusiasts in the region. [At Holton-Arms], we love seeing this experience spark even more learning, as our math club students dive deeper into these problems and share solutions with the wider community."
This strong start to the season underscores the dedication and mathematical aptitude of the students, who are eager to continue honing their skills and representing Holton in upcoming meets. Their success sets an inspiring example for future participants and reflects the school's commitment to nurturing a passion for math. Ms. Sauter, Middle School Math Teacher, added, "Our Math Olympiad practice saw a surge in participation the week after the meet when we announced our results to the middle school during Assembly. The room was packed with students tackling different challenge problems together."
