Holton Faculty and Staff Milestones and Awards
Faculty and Staff Celebrating Milestones
During the annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Brunch, hosted by the Parents Association, the Holton-Arms community recognized faculty and staff who are retiring and who are marking milestones in their number of years at Holton.
Tributes were made to Nandini Giridharadas and Cynthia Weinberg upon their retirement. Cynthia Weinberg is retiring after twelve years at Holton. She started in the Lower School Library but has spent the last several years working as the LS Administrative Assistant. After 24 years as the Upper School Ceramics Teacher, Nandini Giridharadas and her husband will retire together.
Several faculty and staff were recognized for milestones of 5, 10, and 15 years of service. Special presentations were made for faculty and staff celebrating major milestones of service:
Leslie Nelson (20 years), Maggie Spak '98 (20 years), Diego Bautista-Melero (20 years), Kristen Edma (25 years), Craig Falk (25 years), Sal Robles (25 years) Eileen Shelton (30 years), and Yolanda Keener (40 years).
Thank you to the Parents Association for the wonderful celebration! The team, led by Lisa Noto, Meghan Rogers, and Jessica Jue, created a truly spectacular event, featuring beautiful and colorful decorations, absolutely amazing raffle prizes, a delicious menu including an omelet bar and smoothie station, and an incredible rainbow candy bar.
The Open Door Award

At the final Faculty and Staff gathering, The Open Door Award was presented for the first time to David Hawkins. The Open Door Award is given to a member of Holton’s Faculty or Staff and chosen by the Head of School, this recipient is a quintessential community builder who does not seek the spotlight and opens the metaphorical Holton-Arms door with joy, purpose, kindness, responsibility, and respect, when all and none are watching. This individual models inclusivity and integrity, understanding that our mission delivery is achieved through everyday, seemingly small interactions with members of Holton’s community and proudly serves as an ambassador of our founder’s vision to make a big impact far into the distant future and beyond Holton’s Open Door.
“From wise counsel to ensuring our business is taken care of, Dave is resourceful, loyal, dependable, and full of heart. A guardian and greeter, through and through, Dave radiates the good and sees to it that after asking, “How are you?”, he waits for your responses with care and focus. With a caring heart, friendly smile, a caretaker of Holton’s youngest and most senior citizens, even those with four legs on the craziest days, Dave Hawkins knows how to turn a sleepy gray morning into rainbows and butterflies.” — Penny B. Evins
David Hawkins has worn many hats here at Holton. Dave, who joined the Holton community on February 5, 2001, was initially hired as facilities support to help with general maintenance. Since then he has driven buses, painted, and is now the face that greets many of us every day as a member of the security team!
Congratulations to Dave and all of our Faculty and Staff Milestones!
