Inspiring Examples: Alumnae Help Upper School Students Navigate College Dreams

Each year, Holton-Arms welcomes back young alumnae who generously share their experiences in college with current Upper School students. This cherished tradition continued as more than 20 alumnae returned to campus to connect purposefully with their advisory groups. The topics varied from navigating the college application process to the challenges of doing laundry for the first time–and everything in between.

Penny Gallagher ’22 shared her practical advice for tackling the college application process, urging students to “knock [their] college applications and essays out early over the summer.” She emphasized, “It will ease your stress during the fall, and it could help you stand out among other applicants.

Billi Hall ’23 offered a unique perspective on the importance of timing college visits. “Go on college visits during Homecoming week,” she advised. “You’ll be able to get a good sense of what the school is really like during Homecoming week–especially if you plan on attending an HBCU.”

These valuable insights along with candid discussions fostered a sense of community and support between current students and the alumnae who once walked in their shoes.

Holton-Arms extends heartfelt thanks to the alumnae featured below for embodying the school’s values of service, leadership, and connection. Through their advice and presence, they continue to inspire and nurture Holton’s next generation, exemplifying the spirit of the Holton-Arms sisterhood.
