Connection and Purpose: Holton-Arms Honors the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As a learning community where educating through service and the study of leaders is embedded in our curriculum, the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr’s vision is amplified as we honor his legacy. The Holton-Arms community engaged in workshops, assemblies, and activities focused on service and reflection to celebrate his impact.
Upper and Middle School students participated in an assembly that combined education and inspiration, encouraging the entire Holton-Arms community to reflect on the significance of Dr. King’s work in American history and take actionable steps toward positive change. Dr. King, a man deeply rooted in principles of nonviolence, justice, equality, and love, dedicated his life to social justice. His simple but eloquent principle, "Leave everything better than you found it," remains as critical today as ever."
The combined middle and upper school assemblies included thoughtful presentations that underscored Dr. King’s pivotal contributions to the civil rights movement. Students shared personally meaningful quotes, recounting moments of Dr. King’s life and career.
Student and faculty speakers highlighted Dr. King’s philosophy of giving back to the community. Through stories of his advocacy and dedication to justice, students were reminded of the power of collective effort in driving social change.
This MLK Jr. Day, the Holton-Arms community embraces the spirit of giving and reflection by aligning the celebration of his life with actionable service.
All three divisions enjoyed student-led assemblies honoring the life and vision of Dr. King. The assembly extended Dr. King’s call to action by focusing on tangible ways to serve local and distant communities. Students were encouraged to participate in initiatives tied to the International Day of Service. Projects included organizing drives to support local shelters, writing letters of encouragement to those in need, and volunteering with nearby community programs.
Additionally, Holton-Arms hosted a community service fair during the week to highlight service opportunities. The fair showcased various ways students and families could engage with local organizations, emphasizing the importance of ongoing contributions to community well-being.
Holton’s commitment to community engagement shines through the diverse opportunities available to students both within and beyond our Open Door. Students actively connect their education to real-world impact through experiential learning, student leadership, and meaningful partnerships with external organizations.
