The Holton-Arms Wellness Program
The Holton-Arms Faculty/Staff and Parent Wellness Program supports the mind, body, and spirit of participants by providing stress relief opportunities through a variety of fitness modalities. Wellness Program offerings include therapeutic massage, yoga, Pilates, body sculpting, swimming, and other group exercise classes. Faculty/staff and parent participants are role models for the students at Holton-Arms, embracing the importance of healthful activities in their daily lives. The Wellness Program also fosters a sense of community and collegiality in a fun and active setting where individuals of all fitness levels and abilities are welcome. Participant Testimonials:
“The Holton Wellness program has brought exercise and camaraderie into my life.”
Christie Weiss
Holton-Arms Trustee & Parent ’10 & ‘12
“The Wellness Program is a very important and special part of my life. It is an environment where each can perform at their current level and move from there. Nobody puts the other down for not doing what the other can do nor does anyone seem to have to prove anything to anyone. It is just a healthy environment for pushing oneself. My other favorite part of the classes are my fellow classmates. They are kind, caring, tremendous fun to chat with and very unpretentious. There is no fashion show on clothing or makeup...just real people really trying to accomplish something. I have made bonds with all that transcend the boundaries of the classroom.”

“I love being able to participate in an exercise program at work (no travel time to a gym). It makes me feel great that I’m doing something good for my body. It also helps work off the extra food that is always available at Holton!”
Bess Gonglewski
Library Assistant
Alice S. Marriott Library
“Wow… how can I answer this question? It means everything to me. I love the fact that it is right here at my workplace, I don’t have to drive somewhere and I get to work out with people I know. I also like that fact participants’ opinions play an important role in deciding which classes to offer etc. This is a great benefit that Holton offers to its employees.”

Assistant Librarian

“The wellness program at Holton is outstanding! Consistent with Holton’s mission, it helps build body, mind, and spirit…for faculty and staff. After a yoga class or a strengthening session, I leave work at the end of the day feeling refreshed and like I have done myself a favor, rather than depleted of energy and inspiration. I relish the opportunity to clear my mind of the day’s clutter while I give in to the experience of challenging my body. The wellness program is also an opportunity to build relationships across the school by division and department; I’ve gotten to know my colleagues over deep lunges and restful poses after an intense workout. Finally, the benefits of the program extend far beyond the post-class high. I’ve continued using parts of what I’ve learned in my home and exercises at my neighborhood gym.”
Dena Greene
Curriculum Coordinator
“Teaching at Holton is an incredibly demanding job. Fitting in time during the week to exercise and stay healthy is a real challenge. Knowing that I have a fitness class twice a week from 4 to 5 gives me the motivation I need to take a break from my work and get my body moving. I know I’m going to have a great workout and have fun too. Overall, the wellness program makes me feel healthier and happier to be here!”
