Student achievement recognized at Class Day
Posted 06/07/2012 09:00AM

Forty juniors and seniors received a variety of awards and recognitions at Holton-Arms' Class Day 2012 awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 6. Middle and Upper School students, faculty, staff, and guests attended the event to pay tribute to the accomplishments of the Classes of 2012 and 2013.

As the awards program began, Vanessa Sauter ’12, Editor-in-Chief of Scribe, read the yearbook dedication. This year it was presented to Melinda Salata, Upper School English teacher and longtime writing mentor to many Holton girls. Salata praised for being “a motivator for going  beyond the written word.” The Class of 2003 Award was presented by President of the Class of 2012 Amanda Lee to history teacher Joel Seltzer.

Forty-six awards were given to students who have distinguished themselves in academics, arts, athletics, community service, leadership, and school spirit. Several awards had multiple recipients such as the Sally Alexander Scroll Award, which was presented to the three editors of this year's publication, who produced the School's first online literary magazine, and Head's Letters of Commendation, which were awarded to three high-achieving seniors. Several students received more than one award.

In addition, two Middle School students, one from each grade, received the Catharine P. Wheatley Middle School Award, and 14 juniors and seniors were inducted into the Cum Laude Society.
