Final preparations are underway for this summer’s Global Education trips! Please note that all pre-trip paperwork is due to the Upper School Office by Tuesday, May 1. If you have not completed your paperwork, please do so as soon as possible. 

There are a variety of student and parent meetings taking place in the next few weeks. Please see below for details regarding your daughter’s trip and its upcoming meetings. 


French Immersion Program 

All pre-trip paperwork was due to Upper School Office by Tuesday, May 1. If you have not yet completed your daughter's paperwork, please do so immediately. Pre-trip paperwork is available on the trip course pages on the Parent Portal.

Student Lunch Meeting
Wednesday, May 2 

12:45 p.m. 
World Language Office 

French Immersion students will discuss “The Bald Soprano,” a play written by Eugene Ionesco in preparation for a visit with Genevieve Brunet Smith, an actress and close friend of the playwright. Students will need to bring their lunch.

Tuesday, May 8
UB World Language, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Genevieve Brunet Smith, a French actress, will visit with the French Immersion travelers to discuss Eugene Ionesco’s “The Bald Soprano” and “Theater of the Absurd” in preparation for seeing the theatrical piece in Paris. 

Final Preparations Student Meeting
Monday, May 21
12:45-1:30 p.m. 
World Language Office

French Immersion students will have a lunch meeting in the World Language office to make final preparations for their summer exchange trip to Paris, where they will be staying with students from our sister school Centre Madeleine Daniélou. Lunch will be provided.

Spanish Immersion Program 

All pre-trip paperwork was due to Upper School Office by Tuesday, May 1. If you have not yet completed your daughter's paperwork, please do so immediately. Pre-trip paperwork is available on the trip course pages on the Parent Portal.

Parent/Student Meeting
Thursday, May 10
7:30-8:30 a.m. 
Room 320

Spanish Immersion students and parents will receive their host family information and begin correspondence in anticipation for their trip to Madrid.

Student Lunch Meeting 
Thursday, May 17 
12:45-1:30 p.m.
Room 320

The Spanish Immersion students will have a lunch meeting to go over last minute details in preparation for their trip to Spain. Lunch will be provided.

Costa Rica, Senegal, & India

Empanada Sale 
Wednesday, May 2 

Global Education participants will be selling delicious empanadas at break and lunch on Wednesday, May 2. The proceeds will help fund service projects the students will be participating in during their trips to India, Senegal, and Costa Rica.

Parent/Student Dinner Meeting
Wednesday, May 16
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Dining Room

Traditional Indian food will be served along with coffee, tea, soda, and water. Director Melissa Brown will have a final information meeting with parents of Global Education participants to go over last minute travel questions and procedures. Global Education students will meet with trip leaders in classrooms following dinner to discuss “Culture as an Iceberg.” The groups will dive into why culture is much deeper than what is seen on the surface. 

Please RSVP to Kimberly Mathias and indicate the total number of dinner attendees in your reply. 

Senegal & India Student Meetings
Thursday, May 24
2:30-3:30 p.m.
Classrooms 

Students traveling to Senegal and India will meet in classrooms with their trip leaders to go over last minute travel details in preparation for trip. 

Meeting with Ambassador Figueres 
Thursday, May 24
3-4:30 p.m.
Costa Rican Embassy

The Costa Rica travelers will visit with Ambassador Figueres at the Costa Rican Embassy. The Ambassador will spend time with students in conversation and provide a tour of the Embassy in preparation for their trip to Costa Rica.
