Technology

Holton-Arms is a technology leader in the independent school community.  We have been a laptop school for more than ten years; we co-founded the Online School for Girls, the first and only single-gender online school; our students and teachers created some of the first content for the new National Association of Independent Schools' iTunesU site; and our staff leads many regional and national education technology organizations.

Holton-Arms uses technology significantly throughout the curriculum.  The School is a "laptop school" for grades 7-12 (all incoming students are required to have the same make and model laptop).  Lower School students have many laptop computers available in their classrooms, and have two specialized computers labs that are used throughout the school day.

Holton-Arms provides additional computer equipment, computer services, and network access to its community as tools to support learning and teaching.

Technology resources include:

  • Specialized computer labs for music technology, digital photography, engineering and student publications
  • Wireless computer connections to educational resources all over the world through the Internet
  • Individual email accounts to faculty, staff, and students in grades 7 through 12
  • Network access to in-house information resources, educational software, and productivity tools.

The School treats online safety seriously.  After appropriate instruction, parental consent, and signed acceptable use agreements, students in grades 7 through 12 may be granted unsupervised (but content filtered) access to the Web through the School’s network. All other students access the Internet in supervised instructional settings.

The Holton-Arms School policies, Honor Code, and major rules encourage students, faculty, and administrative personnel to exhibit personal integrity, responsibility to themselves and others, and respect for cultural and individual differences. These same principles of behavior are the basis of the appropriate and ethical use of the School’s computer technology.
