The Alice S. Marriott Library

The Marriott Library is for students in Grades 7 through 12.

An extensive collection of curricular, co-curricular, and recreational materials, as well as state of the art technology, are available to students and teachers to foster their quest for knowledge.

Library Collections:

The Marriott Library collection features more than 35,000 items, including books, periodicals, audiovisual materials and equipment, computer software, and online subscription databases.

Holton also provides students access to virtual libraries, accessible on campus and at home. The virtual library features an online catalog, more than 50 subscription databases (including general and subject encyclopedias), full text periodical and newspaper indexes, full text subject specific databases, and general resource multi-media collections.

Links to local libraries, search engines, recommended websites, reading lists, and current assignments provide additional access to library resources and services both at Holton and in the broader library community.

Library Program:

The objectives of the library program include:

  • Educating the students about the use of the library and its resources - print, non-print, and electronic
  • Developing the students research and information literacy skills
Stimulating the students' interest in reading fiction and nonfiction as sources of pleasure and enrichment
  • Working cooperatively with faculty to incorporate the latest developments in educational and information technology into the girls' learning experiences at Holton.

The library program is integrated into the curriculum at all grade levels and in all subject areas. The librarians work with students individually and in scheduled classes to help them acquire research skills, to develop information literacy, and to become sophisticated consumers of rapidly expanding information sources and technologies.

Library Facilities:

The Marriott Library features a large central reading and research area, a periodical reading room, a library classroom, a seminar room, a computer lab, several small group work rooms, a reference area, a separate arts area, office space, and stacks.

The entire library provides wireless access for students to use their laptops. (return to top)
