Season Preview:
The 2009 Varsity Field Hockey Team returns this fall with a squad of seasoned veterans and spirited newcomers and with new ambition and the mind-set to capture the ISL Championship. With 11 returning letter-winners, the coaching staff will look to the two Senior Captains (Abby Cohen and Veronica Leonard) to lead the team of 15 both on and off the field. The team will be learning and mastering new skills, tactics, and an overall philosophy to complement the natural strengths of each player
The attack will be led by Leonard, Sarah Hansen ('10), and Juniors Olivia Voslow and Catherine Klinedinst. Sophomore Sarah Lincoln will join this experienced group to create tremendous scoring opportunities with quickness and speed in the offensive end of the field.
Kasey Miller, Caitlin Lackner, Abby Carras, and Mikki Offit will be controlling the midfield for the Panthers this year. Kelsey Good ('12), a new addition to Varsity this year, will be looked upon to create a spark and defensive energy for the team. All six bring a variety of playing styles and strengths that will provide a sense of balance for both the attack and defense.
Holton's defense will be anchored in goal by newcomer Nicole Kim ('10). Joining her is a very hard-working defensive unit including returnees Cohen, Beth Hansen ('10), and Bradley-Anne Naing ('11) . Millie Dent ('10) will be looked at to make an impact to control and slow down the sideline attack of opponents.
With a disappointing 2008 season behind them, each athlete is ready to raise the level of her game with consistent hard work and focus throughout the entire fall.
To prepare for the intense ISL opponents, Holton will open the season against Magruder, then play Clarksburg and Centerville.
