The Holton Varsity field hockey team ended their season on a great note a few weeks ago. This season, with only four returning varsity players, the team made a tremendous effort to improve at every practice and play competitive field hockey in every game. Led by senior captains Marisa Postal and Caroline Klinedinst, the team celebrated some great wins over Madeira, Sidwell, Flint Hill and Brookewood in the regular season. While the more experienced ISL teams gave us a challenge, the girls never failed to work hard until the last minute of play and during these games they even put forth offensive pushes. Some highlights included our 3 goal come-back at Potomac in our final week of league play, with all goals scored by senior forward Marisa Postal, and a tight game against Holy Child with a goal a-piece by Marisa Postal and Jackie Hardie. We ended the season with a great win against Holy Child to avenge our loss to them in the regular season with a 3-2 score. The squad learned a lot about team defense this season, and was anchored by goalkeepers Taylor Lawrence (186 saves) and Caleigh Crawford (26 season saves). The team looks forward to next fall, and will miss the presence of our four seniors, Caroline Klinedinst, Marisa Postal, Emma Saunders and Kristin Bednarek. They helped foster a great environment for our young team, and kept a positive mindset throughout the season, always playing their hardest until the final buzzer. Way to go Panthers on a great season, we can wait to start up again next fall!
