The Holton Ice Hockey team returns from an amazing 2013-2014 campaign with an eagerness to defend the MAGHL title and determination to compete for the 2015 WIHLMA championship. After graduating three dynamic Holton hockey players last season, we welcome 12 freshmen (Kristen Bitsberger, Lexi Boo, Ceci Gichner, Gaby Henry, Greer Knebel, Taylor Lawrence, Rayne Layton, Nayana MacMillan, Caleigh Mason, Christine Padalino, Palma Price, and Izzie Ross) to the team. Shannon Voulgaris, a four-time All-American ice hockey player at Middlebury College and former coach at the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut and the Southfield School in Brookline, Massachusetts, will join Head Coach Kim Mathias and Assistant Coach Aaron Bill on the coaching staff. Recently elected assistant captain Emma Huther and co-captains Catherine Meyer and Marisa Postal along with seniors Lana Levin and Zoey Pellowitz, will model the hard work necessary and provide the guidance needed to meet the challenges that come along with having a successful season. We look forward to the energy and enthusiasm that this young squad will bring to the rink.
The Holton-Arms School has been a pioneer in the development of girl's ice hockey at the high school and middle school levels in the Washington D.C area. With a rich tradition of combining local players with ones trying the game for the first time, Holton-Arms continues to foster an environment for all students to reach their goals and aspirations in athletics. The program begins in middle school with a development based schedule full of practices and a few local games. The Varsity team plays a competitive schedule in two leagues, the Mid-Atlantic Girls Hockey League (MAGHL) in the D.C./Baltimore area and the Women's Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic (WIHLMA) playing a variety of school's from Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
Head Coach: Kimberly Mathias
Before joining the Global Education, Mathematics, and Physical Education departments at Holton, Ms. Mathias spent seven years coaching ice hockey at Yale University. In addition to coaching ice hockey, working with the Global Education program, and assisting with the crew team, she will be teaching P.E. and assistant coach of the JV soccer team.
Mrs. Voulgaris joined the Holton-Arms community after teaching and coaching in both middle and upper schools in New England. She is excited to be teaching Middle School History and coaching both ice hockey and lacrosse!
