Global Education Programs Abroad

My name is Melissa Brown and I am honored to join the Holton Family as Director of Global Education. As the Holton students will attest, moving beyond our borders not only enriches our understanding of the global community, but also that of ourselves; personally, locally and nationally.

During the last 16 years I taught Spanish classes levels I-AP, served as lead teacher of Foreign Languages, and developed and led four-week, language intensive home-stay programs in Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and Spain. Crafting these types of opportunities for students to take learning beyond the classroom has taught me the value of a well designed and community supported global education program.

This year, my primary goal is to continue to involve our talented and diverse staff, student body and parent group in the integration of the global themes: Biodiversity and Loss, Women in Society, and Emerging Economies into Holton’s curriculum. It is my intention to energize our 2010 travelers to take a leadership role in the education and preparation of future participants. In Costa Rica, India and Senegal continue to seek opportunities to develop and build upon relationships while actively exploring global issues, solutions and leadership.
