Authentic Assessment

The Authentic Assessment Workshop led by Rachel Herlein Academic Dean Holton-Arms School and Diana Gross, Senior Instructional Facilitator for Johns Hopkins and National Geographic Traveler of the Year 2012 will explore how teachers can create opportunities for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through real-world applications. Moving beyond recognition and recall of information, these tasks require deep understanding and application of the stated learning goals and objectives. Authentic assessment allows our students to make connections between what they are learning in the classroom and its relevance to their world. Workshop participants will identify the steps to creating an authentic assessment, explore examples from multiple disciplines and grade levels, and refine or create an assessment for their context.
